Cayman Brac Island

The Cayman Brac island is the second largest of the three Cayman Islands. It is home to some 1,500 residents and supports a thriving tourism market. The island is unique in the Caribbean and offers a great destination for those seeking something different. Cayman Brac is less famous than its sister island Little Cayman for its diving and snorkeling options, but he has more to offer in terms of natural scenery on the island itself, including world-class bird watching. . It also has the highest elevations anywhere in the Caymans on The Bluff – and these cliffs inspired early settlers to give the island its name from the Gaelic word 'brac', meaning 'bluff'.

Ashore, attractions include the Cayman Brac Museum at Stake Bay, a variety of dramatic caves; such as Rebecca's Cave, Peter's Cave and Halfway Ground Cave, nature trails exploring the bluff and ironshore beneath it at the eastern tip, small, charming homes restored in traditional seafaring architectural styles. The delightful people of this unusual community are its main attractions.

In addition to diving, Cayman Brac offers other forms of entertainment to visitors. A sport growing in popularity is rock climbing. Rock climbing enthusiasts have touted the bluff as a great platform for sheer vertical cliff climbing. Many climbs have already been mapped out with more being added each day. In addition to rock climbing, Cayman Brac offers some fantastic fishing opportunities. The Public Beach is anything but what its name implies. If you've ever wanted a beach completely to yourself this is it. The facilities are well kept up and the beach is beautiful.

Food

There aren't many restaurants on the Brac, but the ones you'll find are worth second visits. Maybe the best way to choose is by your mood. Almost all have outdoor as well as indoor dining, some are on the water, all the others are near it. The seafood will be fresh. None are formal, but you can choose a degree of elegance.

Shopping

There are a few places on the Brac where you will find some interesting souvenir items such as caymanite jewelry and original island art. In general, however, the Brac is not a shopping mecca.
